In April 2023 Kovis d.o.o. has successfully completed the investment in the construction of a solar power plant with an output of 446,355 KW. This will enable us to cover around 25% of our own electricity needs.

Nearly 1,000 solar panels were installed on the 4,000 m² roof of the Brezina headquarters by the contractor GEN-I Sonce.

The Kovis solar power plant construction project was partially funded by the European Cohesion Fund.

Kovis’ decision to build a solar power plant reflects our commitment to environmental responsibility and long-term sustainability. By using solar power, we reduce greenhouse gas emissions, expressed in CO2 equivalents, by 224.18 t/per year and contribute to the expansion of renewable energy sources.

We are pleased, that after a longer break, we were able to present ourselves again at the InnoTrans 2022 fair in Berlin, which took place from September 20th to 23rd.

InnoTrans is the world’s largest fair for rail transport technology. This year more than 2,800 exhibitors from 56 countries presented themselves in 42 exhibition halls of the Messe Berlin exhibition center.

Under the motto of this year’s fair “With an innovative approach, we are looking for different paths that lead to excellence” we presented for the first time a market innovation that was created in cooperation between the company Kovis and Miba, a company from Austria. The Miba company deals with the production of brake pads and coatings.

Both companies have combined the excellent properties of brake pads and brake discs, resulting in a solution that enables even more safety and reliability when braking – the so-called sMart brake. This product is environmentally friendly, reduces brake noise, makes driving more comfortable, and improves the quality of life for people near railways and subways.

At the fair, we wrote success stories with other Slovenian companies. The Slovenian company K.R.E.S took care of setting up the exhibition space, the guys from the Jezeršek company were in charge of the catering. The holofan, a well-received attraction, was provided by the company Holofiction from Samobor. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their contribution.

sMart braKe is the heart of train braking. It solves sustainability, material, market, safety and enviromental challenges smartly.

The new market innovation, offered by KOVIS and MIBA in the new alliance, combines the excellent properties of brake pads and brake discs.

The combination of pads and discs allows  even better safety and reliability when braking. sMart BraKe is environmentally friendly because it reduces braking noise. This not only enables a more comfortable ride, but also a better quality of life for people near railways and metros.

sMart braKe is the result of a strategic alliance between KOVIS and the Austrian company MIBA, both private, strong, flexible and financially stable partners. It will be presented for the first time at Innotrans 2022, taking place  from September 20 – 23 in Berlin.

The strong development approach of KOVIS and MIBA brought the product a longer life, noise reduction, lower energy consumption, cost optimization, and NVH (noise, vibration, roughness) improvements.

sMart braKe is also important due to  concerns for sustainability. It consists of a new advanced friction material. There is no waste in its production. sMart braKe is made from recycled raw materials as well. The brake disc and pads are made of  friction material of the future. It is manufactured in Europe, which increases safety and reliability in the supply chain.

Ideal product for the future

Therefore, the sMart braKe is ideal for the production of a new fleet in the coming years, as the demand for comfortable and shorter journey times increases. It is also ideal for environmentally friendly, reliable and cost-effective transport. And it enables lower energy consumption and a lower carbon footprint.

Each year, the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GZS) organizes an innovation day, where activities in the framework of Slovenia’s Innovative programs are implemented and included, to further develop innovation culture in Slovenia and support Slovenian innovators.

At the Innovation Day 2021, which took place on Friday, October 12th, 2021 in the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Center, national awards for innovations were presented by the GZS for the nineteenth time in a row.

Proudly we  announce that Kovis has received the silver award from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Innovation 2021 for the innovation “One-piece railway brake disc for passenger transport”.

We are very honored to have received such an important award at the national level, but we understand that this is only one step on our way to success.

The Krško Posavje Chamber of Commerce awarded the best innovations of the Posavje region for the year 2021. The event took place in the Rajhenburg castle in Brestanica on Monday, September 20, 2021. The seven-member commission received 11 innovation applications. Four gold, three silver and two bronze awards were given. According to the Posavje Regional Chamber, which operates within the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, gold and award-winning companies will compete for awards at the national level, including Kovis with a one-piece railway brake disc for the passenger transport.

The one-piece FLEX brake disc introduces a revolutionary carrier design that enables the brake disc to improve its main features. Thanks to the new carrier, the brake disc is suitable for higher speeds. Due to the combination of high thermal efficiency and low air resistance, it is optimally powerful and also impresses with lower weight and longer durability of the braking surfaces.

Uroš Grivc, David Deržič, Bogdan Blažinč and Ivan Smolej signed the innovation “One-piece railway brake disc for passenger transport”.

The recognition reflects the hard work and experience of the entire team and shows that good ideas lead to positive and innovative solutions.

The company Kovis d.o.o. has been awarded with the Certificate of Financial Reliability by Prva bonitetna agencija d.o.o., which is a credit rating agency for the evaluation and preparation of credit reports.

The Certificate of Financial Reliability goes to those economic entities, whose business operation and financial assets situation reflect its above-average performance and financial reliability according to the criteria of the credit rating agency fort he issuing of the certificate.

Holders of the Financial Reliability Certificate belong to 7.32% of the elite group of financially most reliable economic entities in Slovenia.

On Friday, 18 June, the Minister of Economic Development and Technology, Zdravko Počivalšek, visited the municipality of Brežice.

The visit began with a round table at the Brežice Youth Centre, where Minister Počivalšek and the Mayor of the Municipality of Brežice, Ivan Molan, spoke with entrepreneurs about the current situation in the field of entrepreneurship in the Municipality of Brežice. Afterwards, Minister Počivalšek visited the TPV Automotive and Kovis companies.

After a brief presentation of the Kovis company and our projects, Minister Počivalšek, together with his colleagues, visited our production, the tool shop, as well as a measuring room.

At the end of his visit, in a statement to the media, the Minister said: “After visiting both companies, I am impressed by what I saw, because all of the funds of the Ministry of Economy are invested in companies with extremely high-added value, which ultimately is our country’s goal. The goal is to create a competitive business environment that allows entrepreneurs to continue their real success stories. Everyone in Slovenia is connected to foreign markets, and the stories they write in TPV and Kovis are fantastic.”

For the second time in a row, the analytical house Bismode Slovenija awarded the company Kovis a platinum certificate of credit excellence 2020, which represents  their highest possible recognition of business excellence at  European level.

In the turbulent year 2020, only 1.3% of all 177,562 registered companies in Slovenia achieved a platinum credit rating, including Kovis. A credit rating of excellence represents an above-average credit rating of economic operators.

The management of the Kovis company is aware that all employees are jointly responsible for these excellent business results and  they especially thank their employees in this regard and is looking forward to a successful business in the future.
